Music
At Corbridge C of E First School, children gain a firm understanding of what music is through listening, singing, playing, evaluating, analysing, and composing across a wide variety of historical periods, styles, traditions, and musical genres.
We follow The Charanga Musical School Scheme which ensures a clear progression of skills and engaging and exciting resources to support every lesson. The Scheme supports all the requirements of the national curriculum but moves away from objective or outcome concepts to an integrated, practical, exploratory and child-led approach to musical learning. In addition, children in Reception and Year 2 are lucky enough to be taught weekly sessions by a music specialist from Music Partnership North.
We are committed to developing a curiosity for the subject, as well as an understanding and acceptance of the validity and importance of all types of music. We aim to provide children with the opportunity to progress to the next level of their creative excellence.
The National Curriculum for music aims to ensure that all pupils:
- Perform, listen to, review and evaluate music
- Are taught to sing, create and compose music
- Understand and explore how music is created, produced and communicated.
We aim to help children in understanding the value and importance of music in the wider community, and to ensure that they are able to use their musical skills, knowledge and experiences to involve themselves in music in a variety of different contexts.
All schools should have a music development plan, as set out in the national plan for music education.
Ours is detailed below.
